The New Zealand road code is being refreshed.
There are no changes in road rules or driving regulations.
The focus of the refresh is to have clear, simple, accessible content. This is to help learner drivers prepare for the learner licence theory test as well as learn to be a safe, responsible driver.
As a result, the page extent has changed to 232 pages.
Other changes to note in this 2023 edition include:
• Information removed that isn’t essential for getting a learner licence. Refer to the Waka Kotahi website instead for information:
o About the practical driving tests
o Driving skills syllabus
o Restricted licence test guide
o Full licence test guide
o Class descriptions for heavy vehicles and commercial endorsements
o Driving offences and penalties
o Vehicle registered person responsibilities
• New graphics
• Format changes to make the road codes easier to read. This includes grouping relevant information together making more efficient use of space and improving reader flow.
